1998 May 2-3

event of 1998 May 2-3

A magnetic cloud passed the Earth from 12:00 UT May 2 to 17:00 UT May 3 in 1998. The cloud may be traced back to a solar eruption that occurred in NOAA Active Region 8210 on April 29. A halo coronal mass ejection (CME) was observed at 16:59 UT. A new X-ray flare started in the same AR 8210 at 13:30 UT on May 2 and a new halo CME occured at 14:06 UT. The first proton injection time was estimated to be 13:40-13:53 UT.
